Though there are thousands of RSS feeds on the web, most of them are weblogs, and that’s just a little too anarchic even for Apple. (Or any largish company.) I can imagine Apple’s default subscription list as being only sites like Salon and so on. Would they even have a Sites Drawer (or equivalent) which lists hundreds of weblogs?
Daring Fireball: Interview: Brent Simmons
Heh. Funny to see Apple suddenly reinventing podcasting a few years later and doing just about that. I don’t think RSS feeds are quite mainstream yet, but Brent Simmons’ vision of “personal newspapers” sounds like it’s only another year or two away: I consider myself to be fairly internet-savvy, and I only picked up feeds with Reader, late last year.
Reading all of this 5 years later is odd.
