Bah to US Customs and the TSA
So, we arrived yesterday.
In a nutshell, we lost our connecting flight because of the hour we stood waiting in line for US Customs, and the 45 minutes it takes to go through another security check and taking a shuttle to the other end of the airport.
All things considered this was roughly bearable, it just took a forever. What really irks me is:
- Having a “connecting” flights lane in the customs line up would not change the average wait time, as once all connecting flights people are served, you can start accepting regular visitors until the next plane load of people arrive. Less people miss flights, and it doesn’t make anyone wait any longer.
- Assuming our luggage’s barcodes get read before being placed on the luggagemats, there is no real need to have yet another security check. We just came out of a plane! Transfer our bags directly, instead of making us pick them up and recheck them in 3 minutes later. The extra personnel you’ll be hiring won’t be operating expensive xray machines. Everyone wins.
